It's all coming to an end!

My apologies for not blogging recently I have been so caught up in work it has slipped my mind!
To sum up my project would be hard to put into so little words but I will proceed to reflect on my time.

I believe I have achieved an interesting design that displays my concept through adventure and the individual path we each take in life. I sadly was unable to achieve a full set of rendered floorplans due to photoshop freezing and only recovering one file, but thats just another hurdle.

I feel the three most successful parts of my design are:
- My office pods - they provide the staff with a small sanctuary away from the children.
- My sleeping pods - they provide the children with a cosy and secure place to sleep.
- My stairs - the individual shape of my over sized stairs create an interesting sculptural piece.

The three things I could improve on (thats easy):
- My renders
- My flythrough/animation
- My Floor Plans

I have done my best to keep my original design integrity although having to make some compromises along they way has seen me alter that slightly. I found it difficult as in the beginning I set myself huge goals and should of been more realistic!

In the last 2.5 years I have learnt that time management plays a huge role in producing a good design and that not wasting time on things that you may not even be seen.

'Procrastination is the death of progress'

My main strengths as a designer would be that I'm happy to take on new challenges and can work in a team environment however I do need to work on my time management!

With the amount of detail expected of us for the end result, I'm beginning to feel overwhelmed again. Although I can now see the light at the end of the tunnel with my documentation. After submitting two drafts, I know exactly what I need to do to complete my work.

Above is a link to my pinterest board where I have pinned various images the have inspired my design!

After the two week break has come to an end, its time to get back into the swing of things. - Damn.
The break became more or less correspondence study rather then an actual break. I tried my best to be as productive as possible by creating a to do list. This was beneficial as it clearly outlined what I needed to get done to remain on schedule. - Whether I stuck to the to do list or not is another question.

I did manage to cross several things off this list but would of liked to see more get done, however in the last two days of being back in the classroom Ive managed to put my head down.

I still have to put a great deal of my design into archicad which is basically just time consuming. I also have to choose majority of my materials and get my samples ordered. Im hoping to create a new to do list with a realistic allowance of time for everything.

I believe the best element of my design at the moment is the creative use of organic shape. The one thing I need to concentrate on is linking each room into one another. I have too many ideas that it might become messy and there wont be a constant flow or theme throughout my design.

Not long to go, but a lot to achieve in that time! Find a link below to my pinterest board devoted to my major work:

Admittedly when having numerous people contribute their opinions to your design, it becomes difficult to keep a sense of consistency. It is challenging to please everyone, but compromises often need to be made in order to deal with conflicting feedback.
Sometimes it becomes easier to agree with someones idea, test it in the space and if you do not believe it is successful, you have at least been polite and taken on their advice.
There will always be a new idea that you discover, whether it be a new piece of furniture for a space or a whole new way of looking at an area. You need to ask yourself - can you justify changing this and creating more work for yourself. Use your initiative in making this decision!

What a productive week :)
This week I completed my space planning and am hoping to be signed off tomorrow!
My feasibility study has been completed and just needs to be checked over, my report is underway and I just need to do a few more sections! Things are looking up on the work front :)

What a week! Since last wednesday I believe I have made some progress in developing my design. Although a little disheartened I pushed through and have been able to brainstorm and think with more freedom in regards to my design.
To have my space planning signed off, I need to revaluate the awkward spaces I have some how left myself with as well as fine tweak my activity area upstairs! I see this as an achievable objective and can hopefully have this completed by tomorrow.
Something I am concerned about though is my feasibility and report. I am underway with my feasibility study but with the coming weekend being easter and my work schedule being busy I am beginning to become overwhelmed with what i still have left to complete.
For the finishes for my project I intend on using neutral colours with highlighted colour. To achieve this  I wish to use various woods and moulded plastics to create a fun space!
I need all the help I can get at the moment! There needs to be more hours in the day and a bigger supply of coffee!

This week has been a challenge. Whilst completing my space planning I began to limit myself by thinking too far into regulations and the safety of the space. I became disheartened after realising that my design wasn't going down the path I had originally envisaged for it.
I decided to step back from my design and go back to what originally inspired me and why I was passionate about this space.

Areas like the above were the reason I chose to create a childcare centre. They create fun, interactive and inspiring space for children to learn. So screw the regulations!! Once the ideas are created I will then tweek them to conform to the regulations instead of starting with the regulations!
